<Abstract>Modern International Relations theory has predominantly seen universalist ethical principles as normatively attractive yet politically unfeasible. This paper asks whether the ancient Indian ideal of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the idea that the world is one family, can be rendered analytically meaningful within contemporary International Relations theory. Instead of seeing Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam as a dream of world peace, this paper rethinks it as a set of moral rules that include self-control, mutual respect, and shared responsibility. Drawing on Karl Deutsch__ampersandsignrsquo;s concept of security communities, it argues that Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam should be understood not as a blueprint for global political unity but as a normative logic compatible with pluralistic security communities. By analysing illustrative cases of NATO, ASEAN, and the EU, the paper shows how shared identity, repeated interaction, and institutionalised trust can operationalise universalist ethics without dissolving sovereignty. The article contributes to Global IR debates by bridging non-Western normative philosophy with established Western theoretical frameworks, highlighting how civilizational ethical traditions can serve as analytical resources for understanding cooperation and order in global politics.</Abstract>
